                    Services for Community Living

SCL is designed to assist individuals to live successfully in the community. Programs are designed to develop skills required to lead meaningful and participatory lives.  Services are provided within the person/family’s home, in the community and at the SCL office.  The model of service includes one-to-one support and group learning opportunities, depending upon the participant’s skills and learning styles.  Hours and duration of services are usually determined by needs and availability but normally do not exceed twenty hours per month. SCL has two main areas of focus – the Semi Independent Living program and Community Access.

The Semi Independent Living Program provides adults who have a developmental disability with training, maintenance and support.  The program supports individuals to live as independently as possible in their own homes in the community.  Participants are supported in the following areas:

Your love for cooking starts here with WE COOK

WE COOK is a program designed for participants who live independently. Participants work as a team to prepare 5 healthy, low cost meals in a supportive environment.   The meals are then divided and packaged to take home.

Lettuce Be Healthy, a peer support group for individuals learning to live a healthier lifestyle, is a service offered by the SCL program.  Participants set personal health goals and support each other to achieve them. Lettuce be Healthy runs Friday afternoons at 1:00 pm at the Administration building from October through May. Guest speakers from the health care community lead discussions about specific topics of interest. Topics include exercise, nutrition, grocery shopping on a budget, and emotional wellness. Participants are encouraged to suggest topics for discussion.
