PAACL offers a variety of employment opportunities. COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER - Nanaimo
JOB SUMMARY:
The Port Alberni Association for Community Living (PAACL) is accepting applications for regular and casual Community Support Workers to work in Nanaimo.
The Community Support Worker is responsible for providing a range of services in support of individuals in the community who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). A key component of the position will be the building of a support network of community resources and connections that empower the individual and increase their independence. The position also provides direct assistance in such areas as daily living, including practical, social and conceptual skill development.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Completion of a diploma/degree in Human Services (or equivalent) with three to five years related experience;
• Knowledge of ASD and FASD
• Ability to interact with clients in a positive and supportive manner;
• Well developed crisis intervention, problem solving and interpersonal skills;
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• An understanding of the therapeutic relationship, and an ability to come to an agreement with clients on goals/priorities;
• Knowledge of available community resources and supports;
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment and to interact with workers from a variety of agencies.
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License and use of personal vehicle
• Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificate, and a satisfactory Criminal Record Search.

HOMESHARE PROVIDER
Home Sharing is a living arrangement whereby an individual, couple, and/or family shares their home with an adult with a developmental disability and supports them in their daily lives. Home Sharing usually involves supporting one adult with a developmental disability but providers can support two (at maximum) in unique situations.
PAACL is currently looking for caring, skilled, inclusive people to provide full time, respite, and emergency respite home sharing to adults with developmental disabilities who may have complex behavioural and/or personal care needs.
As the people we support are diverse in lifestyle, age, and desires for living arrangements; we are looking for: Single Men, Single Women, Couples, Families, People from the Port Alberni Region, People with experience with challenging behaviours, homes in all shapes and sizes (with or without suites),Wheelchair accessible homes, and People with experience performing personal care.
