Connections Day Program
Connections Day Program is a community based, participant centred and participant driven day program. Services are offered on both a part-time and full-time basis. Participants are supported in a variety of activities based upon their goals, interests, needs, skills and choices.
Activities are designed to encourage personal growth, community inclusion, self-determination, life skill development, and of course...FUN
Some of the programs offered at Connections are: drumming, woodworking projects, arts and crafts, as well as, reading and sign language. bowling, swimming, floor hockey, walking/hiking and an exercise program. The program participates in community cultural events when possible. Participants access shops, restaurants, the museum and the library. There are opportunities for employment and volunteering.
Lunch Program - The lunch program is offered daily, Monday through Friday. Participants enjoy delicious meals and learn valuable life skills including nutritious menu planning, budgeting, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and other important kitchen skills.
Wood Shop - Monday mornings, participants may work on various individual projects such as carving, or simple household projects, as well as contract work. Participation in wood shop activities provides opportunities to develop skills in tool use, measurement, creative design, and project management.
Physical Activity - Connections makes regular trips to Echo Centre for swimming and the gym, and they also go for walks in the community and on local trails. For those who prefer to stay in and excercise, there is exercise equipment and videos at the program.
Drumming/Music - Friday mornings participants practice rhythmic drumming
Sign Language - Participants learn and practice sign language skills
Reading - Staff use innovative techniques such as following wood project plans to
encourage participants to increase and maintain reading skills.
Community Outings - include visits to PAACL residences, Citizens Advocacy, events in the community, shopping, and out of town day trips.
Other activities - include games, puzzles, cards, pool, computers, attending college, and going to the library
